former ACLU president charged with child porn possession

February 23, 2007 · 27 Comments

ALEXANDRIA, Va. — A youth sports coach in Arlington County who is also a past president of Virginia’s American Civil Liberties Union chapter was arrested Friday and charged with receiving and possessing child pornography.

Charles Rust-Tierney, 51, of Arlington, made an initial appearance Friday in U.S. District Court in Alexandria and was detained pending a preliminary hearing Wednesday. The affidavit states that Rust-Tierney also admitted to an agent Friday that he has downloaded videos and photos, which were found in a search of his home, from child porn sites.

Arlington police are continuing their investigation and seeking information from the public on the case. Newsletters on the ACLU chapter’s Web site indicate Rust-Tierney served as president from 2002 through 2005.

Bill O’Reilly of the O’Reilly Factor is reporting his sources say that the videos are of forcible rape of little girls. The investigators say that the only worse films they could imagine would be snuff films.

This is sick. We need to crack down on child pornography. This philosophy that it should not be a serious crime to just look at pictures and videos must understand that a child was harmed to make them.

I am purposely avoiding making reference to the ACLU and the caliber of people in that organization, we shall see how they behave in this matter in the coming days.

My friend Hank has more on this here.

    Hi Kathy,

I didn’t make reference to individuals either, but I did link to the ACLU policies regarding pornography and child porno as well.

I also found a decent page explaining the founding of the organization and all about just who they were.

I suspect this will be around for awhile.

The guy also paid for it with a credit card. oops.

It is interesting to see that the Europeans would like to think that they’re on the leading edge of privacy rights, and free speech, yet the Europeans have repeatedly shown that they do not have the same rights that Americans take for granted.

    Fewer Rapes in Muslim Countries

The official Iranian news agency in 2000 reported that new statistics suggest that in every six days a woman in Tehran is raped and murdered. I guess that’s the only way it gets reported is if the poor girl is murdered after being raped.

There is more to this than meets the eye. The main-stream media probably does not want more to come out about the ACLU.

The ACLU is no stranger to promoting child porn. They defended “Virtual” child porn: http://www.debrajmsmith.com/acluvschildren.html

Excerpt from the article: Virtual Child Pornography: A Case Between

What is the Free Speech Coalition? Think PORN and go here: http://www.freespeechcoalition.com/index.asp?action=preview

The ACLU defended “Virtual Child Pornography.” The ACLU supported the respondents, in the Ninth Circuit Court Brief, stating:”The Government cannot outlaw speech based on the assumption that it may cause some viewers to act illegally:” Go Here: http://www.aclu.org/FilesPDFs/ACF8690.pdf

It also said: “The Evidence Does Not Support a Connection Between Virtual Child Pornography and Actual Harm to Minors.”

Free Speech Coalition’s comment on winning the case: “In 2002, FSC views were upheld in the US Supreme Court in Ashcroft v. Free Speech Coalition, the so-called VIRTUAL CHILD PORN case, which has been described by no less than the ACLU as “the most important victory for the First Amendment in decades.” http://www.freespeechcoalition.com/FSCview.asp?coid=87#history
