Americans want to win in Iraq. A new national survey by Public Opinion Strategies show that voters thought it would hurt American prestige more to pull out of Iraq immediately (59 percent) than it would to stay there for the long term (35 percent).
The survey was conducted nationwide February 5-7 among a bi-partisan, cross-section of 800 registered voters. It has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.5 percent. The survey was commissioned by The Moriah Group, a Chattanooga-based strategic communications and public affairs firm.
The survey also showed that the American people do not agree with their elected officials on Iraq either. Look at these results:
By a 53 percent - 46 percent margin, respondents surveyed said that Democrats are going too far, too fast in pressing the President to withdraw troops from Iraq.
By identical 57 percent - 41 percent margins, voters agreed with these statements: I support finishing the job in Iraq, that is, keeping the troops there until the Iraqi government can maintain control and provide security and the Iraqi war is a key part of the global war on terrorism.
Also, by a 56 percent - 43 percent margin, voters agreed that even if they have concerns about his war policies, Americans should stand behind the President in Iraq because we are at war.
While the survey shows voters believe (60 percent- 34 percent) that Iraq will never become a stable democracy, they still disagree that victory in Iraq (creating a young, but stable democracy and reducing the threat of terrorism at home) is no longer possible. Fifty-three percent say it’s still possible, while 43 percent disagree.
By a wide 74 percent - 25 percent margin, voters disagree with the notion that “I don’t really care what happens in Iraq after the U.S. leaves, I just want the troops brought home.”
Why do we hear the opposite day in and day out in the MSM. These are significant numbers in favor of the President and our troops in Iraq. 53% believe the Democrats are going too far, too fast. 57% say we need to finish the job.
Wonder what Nancy Pelosi and John Murtha think of this.

Below is the actual link to the full survey and some other “selective interpretations” about the numbers.
Nice try though!
http://www.moriahgroup.com/downloads/IRAQNATIONALPOLLDATA.pdf
2. Do you approve or disapprove of the job that George W. Bush is doing as President?
21% STRONGLY APPROVE
18% SOMEWHAT APPROVE
13% SOMEWHAT DISAPPROVE
47% STRONG DISAPPROVE
1% DON’T KNOW
* REFUSED
38% TOTAL APPROVE
60% TOTAL DISAPPROVE
——————–
16. Some people say the United States should include direct talks with Iran as part of a regional
dialogue about the situation in Iraq because Iran has influence in the region. Others say the
United States should not directly engage with Iran because the US has identified Iran as a
sponsor of terrorism and because of Iran’s nuclear program. What do you think?
Do you think the United States should or should not hold direct talks with Iran about the situation
in Iraq?
63% TOTAL SHOULD HOLD TALKS
32% TOTAL SHOULD NOT HOLD TALKS
———————–
33% TOTAL REPUBLICAN
35% TOTAL DEMOCRAT
30% TOTAL LEAN/INDEPENDENT
———————–
The other damning aspect of this “selective survey and interpretation” are the demographics. Few if any younger potential voters were included in these numbers. Those voters would tend to be even more Moderate to Liberal and would likely lean towards a positive Democratic message.
I selectivly interpret this survey as another sign of a Democratic Landslide in 2008. Fortunatly we do not ELECT NEOCONs by survey’s and certainly not by selective interpretation.

I don’t see the damning results on Iraq in what you posted.
I was focusing on the MSM drumbeat on Iraq and America’s perception being cast negative. This poll shows otherwise.
Though what you posted should be noted; AND has been in the MSM often.

It demonstrates that a “MARKETING FIRM” can poll just like the big boys… and then spin it any way they want. Again. The selective questions on Iraq, aimed at that demographic group, put under those terms are obviously going to come out that way.
I would think that that same group throwing a 60% disapproval (47% Strong) rating of the Presidents job performance, and a 65% democratic/independent leaning suggests a serious problem for Republicans.
This demographic group is going to want to be patriotic and “support the troops”- but STRONGLY disagrees with the President. Note also the large margin in favor of diplomatic solutions, especially talking to our enemies…. well you wont get much air time on the NEOCON airwaves or blogs about that.
Of course… they don’t care what the “chattering classes” think anyway… unless they can spin the data to make their own policy objectives look marginally better.

I don’t understand why you think people can not support the war AND think President Bush should have done a better job on Border security; Immigration; Pro-life issues; just to name a few…
The president AND the Republican lead congress did not perform well on ANY of its agenda.
All of your arguments still do not change the support for WINNING the war. Which was my original pronouncement with this post.
